Course Overview
This program focuses on teaching the latest acne therapies, including prescription medications, cosmeceuticals, and advanced light and laser treatments. You'll gain insights into both conventional and modern approaches to acne management and scarring treatment.
Course Objectives
- Acquire the skills to identify a variety of acne conditions and devise an impactful treatment strategy.
- Receive detailed protocols for prescribing systemic antibiotics, topical retinoids, and, for non-responsive cases, Accutane or newly introduced light-sensitive prescriptions. Understand the correct dosages, duration, potential side effects, and contraindications associated with Accutane.
- Master the utilization of contemporary modalities for treating acne, such as microdermabrasion, chemical peels, cosmeceuticals, and the application of more advanced dermal delivery devices.
- Comprehend, assess, and formulate treatment plans tailored to patients with PCOS.
- Learn the intricacies of conducting a comprehensive skin evaluation and consultation.
- Explore traditional therapies, including the use of drying agents, both topical and oral medications (both prescribed and over-the-counter).
- Familiarize yourself with PhotoDynamic therapies (Blue Light), available for both office and home use, as a complementary approach to your treatments.
- Understand the application of Intense Pulse Light Therapy for acne treatment.
- Acquire specific techniques and treatments for addressing Acne Rosacea and controlling its appearance using cosmeceuticals and light therapies.
- Learn effective methods for eliminating unwanted acne scarring, including hypertrophic and keloid scarring associated with acne, through subcision therapy, micro-needling, and intralesional cryotherapy.
- Develop expertise in pricing and marketing these sought-after services, and seamlessly integrate these new offerings into your practice.

This educational program is designed for medical doctors (MDs), doctors of osteopathic medicine (DOs), doctors of dental medicine (DMDs), doctors of dental surgery (DDS), nurse practitioners (NPs), registered nurses (RNs), and other licensed healthcare professionals.
Prerequisites
Participants must complete Empire’s Video On-Demand or Empire-Virtual-Training™ sessions before attending the live hands-on training. These prerequisites ensure all attendees are fully prepared for the practical component of the course.

- Exploration of Myths, Causes, and Psychosocial Impact of Acne
- Market Conditions, Marketing Considerations, and Acne Physiology, including Severity Classifications and Identification of Acne Variants
- Conventional Approaches for Acne, covering pharmacological options for both topical and oral prescriptions, compounded pharmacy alternatives, either as standalone treatments or in combination therapies.
- Contraindications, Adverse Effects, and Dosage Schedules for the various options.
- Oral Isotretinoin (Accutane) details, including recommendations, dosages, available prescriptions, and an overview of outcomes.
- Overview of the FDA's iPledge program and its requirements for administration, including Post-Treatment Monitoring.
- Hormonal Therapies for women, recommendations, identification of the PCOS patient, and FDA-Approved Oral Contraceptives, as well as hormone alternatives (Spironolactone) and complementary Acne Diet options.
- Mechanical Treatments for Acne, encompassing specialized chemical peels (BHA and Boutique Caustic Acids), microdermabrasion, and protocols for adults and teens, both individually and in combination with other therapies.
- Photodynamic Therapies – Kerastik and Bio-stimulation therapies (Blue Light | Red Light), including sample protocols and indications for use.
- Combined Laser light energies for inflammatory acne, such as IPL and mid-infrared lasers (i.e., 1064nm, 1450nm, 1540nm).
- Exploration of various treatment options for acne scarring, including Ablative Laser Therapies, Surgical and Non-Surgical Treatments.
- Protocols, Indications, and post-treatment considerations for Fractional CO2, Erbium-YAG, and Sub-Ablative methods.
- Micro Needling therapies, subcision surgery, and TCA Scar Revision (Ice-Pick scars) are presented, along with protocols and alternative applications of various technologies, including economic considerations associated with marketing these technologies.
